Limonana is the frozen mint lemonade you get everywhere in Israel, and it is four things in a blender: lemon juice, fresh mint, water and crushed ice. Maple syrup is optional, and we make ours barely sweet.
Pulse it rather than blending it. Run the blender too long and the mint goes bitter and the ice turns to water.
4-5 lemons (or 3/4 cup lemon juice)
2-3 large sprigs fresh mint leaves, without stems (can add more mint depending on preference)
¾ cup filtered water
¾ cup crushed ice
3 tbsp maple syrup (optional... we make it without any sweetener but we like it tart rather than sweet)
1In a high speed blender, pulse all ingredients together. Be sure not to over blend as that will create a smoothie rather than a slushie. Enjoy right away otherwise the slush will melt and it will become watery.
2Note: these measurements can all be adjusted to your liking. To make it sweeter, add more maple syrup. To make it more tart, add extra lemons. To make it more slush-like, add more ice.
