Immune Boosting Citrus Smoothie

Now that winter is in full swing, I like to boost my family’s immune system with all my tried and true natural remedies. Our smoothie is packed with oranges rich in Vitamin C, carrots loaded with beta-carotene and Vitamin A (which helps your body create more white blood cells to fight off infection), dates rich with phytonutrients that can stimulate the immune system, manuka honey which is anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and anti- bacterial (optional for our vegan friends), and ginger that produces strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

 1-2 medium oranges, peeled and broken into segments
 ½ cup shredded carrots
 ½ cup unsweetened orange juice
 ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
 1 tbsp manuka honeyOptional: if vegan, omit
 4 datesI soak mine in a bowl of water for 10 minutes to soften them
 1 small knob of fresh ginger, skin peeled off
 ½ tsp cinnamon
 ½ cup ice

In a high speed blender, add all ingredients except for the ice and blend until smooth. Add in ice and blend again. Enjoy!
