A collection of simple Halloween lunchbox snack ideas that use mozzarella cheese sticks, bell peppers, pretzel sticks, and mandarin oranges. Kid friendly, nutritious, and spook-tacular!
Three ideas, no oven and no dye: edible witch’s broomsticks, mandarin pumpkins, and zombie finger cheese sticks. Every one is assembly rather than cooking, so they’re realistic on a weekday morning, and they all pack cold and hold until lunch. If you only make one, make the broomsticks — they take about a minute each once you’ve cut the cheese.

Edible Witch’s Broomsticks: cut a mozzarella string cheese into thirds. Using kitchen scissors, fringe one end into bristles, leaving about an inch uncut at the top. Tie a thin green strip around the uncut band, then push a pretzel stick gently into the top — press too hard and the cheese splits. Full recipe here.
Mandarin Pumpkins: peel a mandarin, keeping it whole so the segments still form a round pumpkin shape. Cut a short stem from a green bell pepper and press it into the dimple at the top.
Zombie Finger Cheese Sticks: lay a mozzarella string cheese flat. With a small knife, score three shallow lines across it for knuckles. Cut a small wedge from an orange bell pepper and press it onto one end as the fingernail.
